Windshield Repair 101 - Making the Repair
Learn how to repair windshields with our free course on Windshield Repair. Know which Windshield Repair Kits are available and which kits fit your repair needs.
Be informed by seeing a comparison of the kits and processes before
you begin, and be able to determine whether a windshield can be repaired
or needs to be replaced.
These kits are used to repair bullseye, spider web, star, chip, and combination windshield
damage. Some kits can repair cracks. See kit comparison chart
for specifics.

Making the Repair:
-
Install Pedestal
Peel the backing off the top side of the adhesive disc. Carefully line
up the pedestal with the adhesive disc making sure that the tab points
upward and lines up with the tab on the adhesive disc.
Starting at one edge, firmly press the pedestal against the disc working
across the disc making sure that there are no air bubbles between the
pedestal and the adhesive disk.
-
Deposit Resin in Pedestal
To open resin tube; remove cap from the resin tube, and away from painted
surfaces carefully cut off approximately 1/8 inch of the tube tip.
Place tip of resin tube 1/4 inch into the pedestal opening and carefully
squeeze to add about 3/4 of the resin into pedestal. When finished, carefully
remove resin tube from the pedestal. Wipe residual resin from tip, and
replace cap on resin tube.
Save the remaining resin for later use later in the process.
-
Attach Syringe to Pedestal
With the plunger pushed all the way into syringe, carefully and firmly
twist the tip of the syringe into the pedestal opening. Note; the fit
between syringe and pedestal must be air tight.
-
Use Vacuum to Pull Air From Damage
While holding the syringe with one hand, gently pull plunger with the
other hand until the lowest indention on the plunger is above the spring
clip. Lock the plunger into this indention by turning the plunger until
the indent is on spring clip. The spring clip will hold the plunger in
its current position.
Allow assembly to sit for 10 minutes to allow air trapped in the cracks
to escape before going to the next step.
-
Pressurize Assemble
To remove the vacuum and allow air into syringe; temporarily disconnect
the syringe from the pedestal by twisting and pulling the syringe at the
same time. With plunger still locked in its current position, carefully
and firmly twist the tip of the syringe back into the pedestal opening.
Note: again the fit between syringe and pedestal must be air tight.
While holding the syringe with one hand, gently push the plunger with
the other hand until the upper indention on the plunger is below the spring
clip. Lock the plunger into this indention by turning the plunger until
the indent is under the spring clip. The spring clip will hold the plunger
in its current position. The assembly is now pressurized.
Allow assembly to sit pressurized for 20 minutes to force resin into the
cracks before going to the next step.
